My partner Mike Lee and I were lucky enough to take 3rd place at the PMTT at lake Vermilion earlier this month. We squared off with some of the very best in the sport and came out near the top! Mike had been able to do some pre-fishing before I arrived and was doing very well. I was excited to get up there and even more excited when on the first cast of the day on Thursday prior to the tourney, Mike caught a nice mid-forties on a Pacemaker. All of our action that day came on topwater and we left quite a few fish behind that day that we felt good about visiting during the tourney.
As we headed out first day of the tournament (Friday morning for this tourney) we saw boats on many of the popular spots already… We tried one spot quickly right away and then noticed that one of Mikes favorite spots was open. We sped over there and proceeded to catch 3 nice fish in about 45 minutes. All fish crushed Musky Mayhem Double Showgirls way out, away from the boat. It was awesome! We came back to this spot a couple hours later at the beginning of the moon major and caught a 38″ kicker fish.
We finished day 1 in 2nd place and despite not hooking up day 2, we only fell to 3rd place. We definitely were around fish on day 2, we just couldn’t get them to open their mouths. We had a few close calls with some giant fish, including a mid 50’s with about 40 minutes of tourney left!
It was a great time and we competed against some really great fishermen!
Here are our fish in the order that we caught them…
